FAQs

No experience is necessary. We provide support for students without prior formal musical experience.

Fill out our Interest Form. This will place you on our communications list to receive information on auditions and registration. We will email you one month prior to auditions.

Children ages 8-18 are required to sign up for our audition. Nothing needs to be prepared. The audition will be on a Saturday from 9-11 am. It is a time for us to assess your child’s voice and musicianship level to place them in the most suitable ensemble.

If your child is 6 to 7 years old, you can enroll in our Songbirds. This is a non-auditioned class, which only requires registration with our choir manager. The choir manager will email you registration materials for the fall class in early September and early January for the spring class.

Fill out our Interest Form for more information.

All ensembles meet in the Music building of El Camino College on Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM. We operate from September through mid-December and late January through the end of May. The length of the class depends on the ensemble. [LINK: Visit our Ensemble Page for more information.]

Members of the South Bay Children’s Choir receive instruction in vocal technique, reading music, singing harmonies, ear training and musicianship in a collaborative setting. They develop performance skills and have opportunities to perform for their community, in festivals, and on tours.

No.  We only meet in the summer when we prepare for a national or international tour.

We want to be a place where all children feel safe and accepted. Due to rules set forth by El Camino College, singers should be able to function independently of a caregiver with reasonable accommodations. Reasonable accommodation in support of this policy will be given to any individual involved in SBCC operations unless doing so would cause undue hardship to SBCC. A reasonable accommodation is any feasible or plausible change in the operating environment or how things are customarily done that enables an individual to enjoy non-discriminatory and equal opportunities to participate. Undue hardship means significant difficulty or expense to the organization in relation to the difficulty of providing a specific accommodation.

We have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Crescent City Choir Festival in New Orleans, the Appalachian Festival of Young Voices in West Virginia, the Sing a Mile High Festival in Colorado, and the Pacific Rim Festival in Hawaii. We have also performed multiple times at the International Children’s Choir Festival in London and at the American Choral Directors Association conferences.
